Mescladís and Teatre Lliure: when the kitchen becomes a stage

A partnership with social and cultural impact

Since 2022, the collaboration between Mescladís and Teatre Lliure has transformed the gastronomic spaces of Gràcia and Montjuïc into places where culture, social inclusion and sustainability meet to give life to a unique experience.

The bars of the Teatre Lliure are today also creative kitchens, laboratories where art and thought ferment naturally, and where dialogue and diversity are essential ingredients. Each dish born in these spaces is a small manifesto, a field of reconciliation.

This collaboration is part of the Cuinant Oportunitats program of the Social Producer Mescladís, which offers training and job placement for people in vulnerable situations. With the support of Teatre Lliure, each month the teams of students and trainers are inspired by one of the plays on the billboard and, through the workshops of La Meva Recepta, turn the feelings and reflections that the play awakens in them into an original gastronomic proposal.

The result is a creation that can be tasted in the Mescladís Lliure spaces, inviting the public to reflect and share through taste.

The process takes place in three key moments:

  1. The day of sharing reflections - a meeting where the emotions and ideas generated by the work are explored.
  2. The vision of the play in the theater - an experience that connects personal experiences with the stories that are represented on stage.
  3. The tasting and exchange with the cast - an open day where art, cuisine and community sit at the same table, celebrating social diversity.

In this way, Mescladís and Teatre Lliure join forces to offer an experience that combines art, culture and social responsibility, reinforcing their commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, especially with the reduction of inequalities and the promotion of inclusive communities.

This month: "Little Women" comes to the table

This November, inspiration came from Little Women, the new production of the Teatre Lliure de Gràcia. The Cuinant Oportunitats and Productora Cultural teams worked from the central themes of the play - family, independence and resilience - to create a culinary proposal that reflects the collective strength and diversity of life paths.

In the workshop, a dish that condenses emotions and memories emerged: the panipuri inspired by Little Women. A crunchy panipuri of chicken salpicon with sweet and sour peach jam, a balanced bite between acid, sweet and exotic; a sensory experience that transforms each bite into a story.

The panipuri doesn't just feed: it condenses memories, desire and courage. Biting into it, the freshness and acidity stir the soul and awaken echoes of the work: Jo writing, Meg despairing, Beth playing the piano and Amy painting her own destiny. In the workshop, a student says that cooking is also about writing life with your hands, that the heat of the oil and the dust of the dough are a way of saying "here I am." Meanwhile, the ball browns, taut as a promise. Laughing, the group concludes: we have all, at some point, left the safety of home to pursue that which sets us on fire inside.

Last Thursday, October 30, we celebrated the shared tasting with the cast of the play, a meeting where flavors, emotions and experiences merged at the same table.
An afternoon of dialogue, learning and mutual recognition.

The gastronomic proposal inspired by Little Women can now be enjoyed at Mescladís Lliure Gràcia throughout the month of November. An invitation to experience theater with all the senses.
