International Probe – Seeing Is Understanding: Visual Journalism in the Face of the Climate Crisis

An independent, nonprofit magazine dedicated to visual journalism in the context of the climate crisis.

Founded in 2022 by a group of journalists with extensive experience in international news, migration, conflict, and human ecology, it was created with a clear purpose: to provide a platform for in-depth journalism.

In an ecosystem defined by immediacy, Sonda invites us to pause. Because only by pausing can we truly understand, become aware, and, ultimately, take action.

In the face of the dizzying pace of events, Sonda Internacional emphasizes the need to look closely. Its work combines photography, documentary video, and research to craft narratives that not only depict the world but also explore the relationships between people and their environment, unraveling the causes and consequences of the environmental crisis.

The project is structured around five areas of analysis through which to examine different realities around the world:

These raise some fundamental questions:

How do we interact with our environment?

How do we transform it?

What kind of mark do we leave on it?

Far from merely highlighting the problems, the project also focuses on the responses: solutions already being implemented in various regions, forms of resistance, care practices, and collaborative efforts.

In this process, communities play a central role. Viewed as social and cultural fabrics deeply rooted in their territories, they are also the spaces from which alternatives are built. Listening, empathy, and collective work emerge as necessary conditions for devising global solutions.

Sonda operates on an international scale, exploring diverse contexts with the aim of offering a comparative perspective on the changes taking place across the globe. Its stories combine observation, analysis, and research to shed light on issues that often go unreported by the media.
